Same story HTACCESS - Lot of confusions.
« on: January 03, 2018, 01:03:08 AM »
I have already practiced htaccess by 301 for www redirections. But this trialing slash code eats my head. Up to now i have no perfect solutions.

all my etano installations result in duplicacy. That is page works in both php files (with slash and without slash)

I would like to function this site without trailing slash for urls and with trailing slash for directories.  Have a great confusion where to add the trailing slash htaccess code.  whether in the htaccess file inside etano folder or in the htaccess file in the primary domain.

I got bored of these try. So  i may need  the correct trialing slash htaccess code and guidance to add in which htaccess file of a domain (root or in installed folder)

Help please

I think you're reading too much into this and needlessly stressing yourself out over nothing, for example ...

URL's such as these, with or without a trailing slash, is a default behavior and are treated by Google as being the same URL and not as different URL's with duplicate content.

Etano defaults URL's without a trailing slash so any internal links you manually add or create just make sure they also don't have a trailing slash. It's important to be consistent so your site's internal links don't produce trailing slashes. If someone arrives at your site and happens to add a trailing slash, Google isn't going to punish you for duplicate content, it's what your site's internal links produce when Goggle crawls it.

Using 301 redirects for the purpose of removing trailing slashes in URL's is rather wasteful and can have a negative impact as frequent redirects will slightly slow down the user experience as each page they visit will require a redirect. Redirects can be useful and important such as in the case of www redirections as this only occurs one time. HTACCESS is something that needs to be utilized responsibly and not abused.

SEO is of course important as everyone wants to rank better, but often too many focus on frivolous things rather than what Google really likes and rewards you for, which are key pages with unique content and well written meta titles and descriptions. Google also doesn't like slow loading pages so it's important to keep the number of images and their sizes to a reasonable amount. I see so many sites that have images on their main page where the overall payload is well over a MB. It's not a good idea for a page's content to be much more than 200kb, especially your main index page as this is where visitors most frequently land, and is the page Google primarily indexes and ranks.
