Problem with Etano and Paypal
« on: February 13, 2017, 07:39:52 AM »
Hi,
I have a problem with Etano and Paypal. When a customer pays his subscription etano does not register. No trace of payment, I have rated the IPN in paypal:
http://Http://www.mon_site.com/processors/ipn.php?p=paypal

Although the site is in HTTPS and not http. Can the problem come from there ????

Paypal also does not take blue cards: "service temporarily unavailable". Only payments that have a paypal account.
I contacted paypal, but they tell me that the problem does not come from them and that the payment card without account, has been activated. Maybe an Etano update?

Thank you for your help

Paypal also does not take blue cards: "service temporarily unavailable". Only payments that have a paypal account.

This can be caused by several reasons:

1. The PayPal "service temporarily unavailable" message typically comes from PayPal itself which could be caused by service interruptions on their end or settings in your PayPal account.

2. If payments aren't reaching your account and upgrading memberships, go to Admin –> General Settings –> Features and Options –> Payment: Paypal

Make sure Enable test mode? Don't enable this on a live site! option is unchecked otherwise member payments will not reach your account.

No, HTTPS is a common protocol used by most payment processors for securing info during the payment process and has nothing to do with you or your site.

PayPal works for most everyone else therefore there's really nothing to update in Etano. If this was caused by the Etano PayPal plugin then the forum would be flooded with people complaining, but so far you're the only one that has posted about having this particular issue.

Thank you Maverick,
However, I did the test of a subscription subscription with my Paypal account and it worked. But Etano did not record anything, that's not normal, I have no record in "Payment History" and the subscription has not changed

As mentioned in #2 above ... did you make sure that "Enable test mode? Don't enable this on a live site!" option is "unchecked" ???

Test mode is just to ensure that the right subscription and connection to PayPal works, but while in test mode actual payment data will not reach your site's account and will not be recorded or upgrade the membership.

If that's not the problem then the only other possibility is something isn't configured properly in your PayPal account where the data isn't being transferred back to your site. Go to the instructions and double check that things are configured properly.

Hi Maverick
Enable mode mode? I have used this link to set up Paypal, after checking, everything is correct.
However, when I go into "Payment History" and "see the order". Only the nickname and e-mail address appear. Not the name or first name of the member N/A.

Member Info
Name: N/A

Coutry: N/A

Payment Info:
Payment method
Auto

Payment TXN
N/A

Can the problem come from there?
Another thing, when a member registers, in "Payment History" I have the "Pseudo" which appears on a first line and "guest" in second line.

Subscriptions to 0.00 € are subscription 1 month free auto
Thanks Maverick

Again ... make sure that Enable test mode is TURNED OFF by UNCHECKING it in the admin or the payment data from PayPal will not be returned and recorded in your payment history and will not upgrade the membership.

For auto membership upgrades when joining, where are they supposed to get the info for their real name from?
Their real name is only added when using the PayPal Gateway which returns the real name of the purchaser including the PayPal order number (TXN). This info is provided by PayPal so you can reference and identify the user (member) in your PayPal account.

I have no idea why you are getting double entries, one with the member's username and another with guest. It doesn't show any guest during any of my tests with auto subscriptions.

It appears you're using a custom or 3rd party template for the admin, maybe this problem is caused by the template you're using.

Sorry, a typing error for (Enable mode mode?) Test mode is disabled.

During registration, the member must inform his full name.

No, the problem is present since the installation of Etano, before this template.

I figured out what causes this. It's because you have multiple registration pages. When you have "Auto Subscriptions" all profile fields included at registration must be on page 1.

This following is stated and highlighted at the very top of the Auto Subscriptions page:
WARNING - in order to use Auto Subscriptions all profile fields that are to be included at registration must be on page 1. Auto Subscriptions will not work if using multiple pages for registration.

Well the script can't auto detect custom fields that you have added and include them in the payment history. This would require custom coding. Auto Subscriptions in the payment history (especially that are free) aren't technically payments and is rather trivial data.

How do I have to make Etano take the NAME into account for payment?

Indeed, the recording is on 2 pages.
I will fix this problem, but in the meantime, how can I fix the problem on subscriptions made?

thank you Maverick

ps: I just fixed the entry on a single page and actually "Guest" no longer appears on the new record I just made.

This would be too much work to try and accomplish. I don't know why it really matters as these are all free trial memberships that all members get when signing up and aren't actual payments, which makes them rather irrelevant.

When a member makes an actual payment (via PayPal) then the person's name will be added to the payment history by the data returned by PayPal. The name of the person will either come from the credit card they used or the name provided in their PayPal account. Which could actually land up being different than the name they provided when signing up for your site.

I tried this does not work, neither the name nor the transaction is saved in Etano during a subscription payment. Despite the settings followed to the letter.
I'll take a closer look, maybe a mistake somewhere

thank you Maverick

After the payment, paypal returns to the site and I have this message:

Quote
The paypal payment plugin received an unhandled error code. Please contact the administrator about this if you think this is an error!

And Etano has not yet registered the payment !!!!! I have the paypal mail that confirms that the payment has been made
There I must admit I am severely annoyed

Well, I checked everything, but it still does not work.
The auto subscription that blocks?

I do not understand, I added the httpS in the paypal link to the site. but nothing happens! Always the same worries.

The email address of the paypal account is not the same as that of Etano, can this cause this error?

If what you mean is that you added https in the return URL in your paypal account, this own't work unless your domain and site has an SSL certificate and is configured for https. Even if your site has an SSL certificate and uses https and you have the return URL with just http it will auto convert anyway, therefore you should leave this field without the https.

It only has to match the email address you entered in the admin "features and options" section for the PayPal payment. It does not need to match your site's email address.

In the admin features and options section for the PayPal payment, double check that the "Payment Data Transfer Identity Token" is correct. If your copying and pasting the token in the field from your PayPal account make sure that there's no spaces at the beginning or end of the token in the field.

I don't know why you're having so much trouble with this, all I can do is make guesses as to what the problem may be because I have no idea what you've actually done. I've known very people that have reported in the forums having this much trouble setting up PayPal and getting it to work. The only ones were those who had "unverified" PayPal accounts and/or were located in countries that PayPal considers high risk which are usually select countries located in the middle east or africa.

As mentioned in this thread:
http://forum.datemill.com/index.php?topic=3600.0

If you're making an echeck payment it won't send data because it's not considered an instant payment, it's a pending payment. PayPal uses IPN (Instant Payment Notification) and will only send data if it's a completed instant payment such as by credit or debit card, or by transferring PayPal funds.
