Does anyone know what could cause slow load times? I have a 98% score with Gtmetrix but the index.php file is taking nearly 5 seconds to load / respond. It doesn't seem to be an issue with the server as other sites on the same server all have fast load / response times.

Update: Found an error in the error log

Code: [Select]
ftp_login(): Login authentication failed
Code: [Select]
Array
(
    [0] => Array
        (
            [function] => error_handler
            [args] => Array
                (
                    [0] => 2
                    [1] => ftp_login(): Login authentication failed
                    [2] => /home/*****/public_html/includes/classes/fileop.class.php
                    [3] => 24
                    [4] => Array
                        (
                            [ftp_error] =>
                        )

                )

        )

The FTP username and password are correct. I have even tried adding a new FTP user, but no luck. Still experiencing extremely slow load times. Almost like nothing is being fetched from the cache.

Still haven't been able to pinpoint what's causing this error.

Any ideas?

There may have been some changes to your server by your host.

When you install Etano, the script tries to detect which FILEOP_MODE your server uses or allows, there's 2 possibilities, FTP or DISK modes.

If you have a lot members FTP mode isn't recommended as it's slower than DISK mode and might time out when regenerating a large cache, which could be the cause of the slow load times you're experiencing.

You check what mode you're using by looking in your includes/defines.inc.php file.

If it's in DISK the following lines will look like this:
define('_FILEOP_MODE_','disk');
define('_FTPHOST_','');
define('_FTPPATH_','');
define('_FTPUSER_','');
define('_FTPPASS_','');

If it's in FTP the following lines will look like this:
define('_FILEOP_MODE_','ftp');
define('_FTPHOST_','');
define('_FTPPATH_','');
define('_FTPUSER_','');
define('_FTPPASS_','');

In FTP mode the 4 last lines will likely have other info such as user and pass info added. In DISK mode the extra lines are left blank as shown in the first example.

If it's in FTP mode, changing the above lines of code so it's in disk mode could effect some files permissions and not work properly until you change the file permissions.

Here's a few topics that have some info regarding this:

You may have to contact your host regarding the mode your server uses and what the permissions should be, or possibly they can alter the permissions.

That's it! I changed the FILEOP_MODE to 'disk' and response times are back to normal. File permissions don't seem to have been affected.

Thanks for taking the time to give such a detailed answer, Maverick. I really appreciate it.
