Etano Templates Available
« on: September 07, 2010, 05:05:25 PM »
For several years people have been requesting templates for Etano.

After more than 8 months of development I've finally managed to complete some templates. There's 3 basic styles available to choose from. The templates have some structural changes and fixes as well as some enhanced or new features. Each template also comes bundled with options and extra images and buttons that allows you to customize the look and feel of your site.

Each template comes with a comprehensive instruction manual in HTML format to make it easy to view and follow. It includes step by step detailed instructions for installing the template as well as editing and customizing the basic elements of your template.

Well done Maverick.
The templates are excellent and the instruction manual is first class.
This is the kind of development that Etano needs.
Keep up the great work - now that Dan has turned his back on Etano and its loyal customers, we need your expertise more than ever.

Yahoo MAVERICK fantastic job.
I just wanna know these templates are free or paid? as far as i concern & got an idea after viewing your templates, looks like paid?
If paid then is there any free template as well or u can make few of them free ?

Other thing is we need more modification/ plugins for Etano please work on plugins and make some more new cool features for Etano as youtube link support, mp3 uploading support & some other languages support as well:)

i hope in future you will work on these things as well & make Etano the best script on the net.

All the best & our kindest regards !

Yes the templates cost money KISS, and rightly so, Maverick spent 8 months developing them.
Also Maverick is only one man, he can only do so much in a day.

I am sure he would love to develop cool new features, but it all takes a lot of time to do things properly, and I think Maverick does more than his fair share of assistance in these forums.

Hear, hear!
Well said Johnboy.
We wholeheartedly agree.
Maverick may not have developed Etano, but he's the main force behind keeping it alive since it's gone open source.
Love your work!

Sorry guys, if they only took me a few weeks to develop I most likely would have made them free, but designing and coding a quality template for a complex CMS such as Etano, especially with some extra features, is an extremely time consuming endeavor. If anyone has hired a designer/developer to create a nice design for their site they will know how expensive it can be.

I know most people could never afford to hire a professional designer to create a nice Etano theme, therefore I invested the time to try and make some decent templates that would be affordable for most anyone to upscale their Etano site. If you shop around for premium templates for other CMS scripts such as Wordpress, I think you'll find my prices are well within line and reasonably priced. In fact I've added a lot of extra options that you don't often find in premium templates that allows the user to customize their template even further. Even if you're a professional designer my templates can be used as a foundation to save you countless hours of work trying to do things from scratch. The included manual alone would be a valuable asset in learning and working with the template basics.

I also understand some people are unable to, or simply don't want to spend any money, and I love freebies as much as the next person, but free can only go so far as designers and developers have expenses and bills to pay just like everyone else and can only afford to invest and donate so much of their time to a project without any return.

I'm actually hoping that other developers will see that I'm charging a modest fee for my templates and mods and it will give them some incentive to also create some cool mods or addons for Etano. I feel it's the best hope of getting more programmers and developers involved with the Etano project so the community can eventually have all the options, addons, and mods most people would like to see.

As for uploading mp3's, this is something I personally have little interest in creating because of the potential problems.

1. You'll need a dedicated server for this, most hosted plans either frown upon or don't allow video and mp3 storage or streaming on their servers.

2. Allowing members to upload mp3 music to your server can also land you in a lot of trouble for copyright infringements and lead to your host shutting your site down and deleting everything. Even Google was facing law suits for this, and so were sites like Playlist.com. They eventually reached a settlement and an agreement with music distributors where they can now legally host mp3 music.

There's some things in Facebook that are ok but to try and create even a partial list of Facebook's apps and mods would be a major undertaking and require a team of programmers. The Etano project really isn't meant to be a Facebook clone.

For now I'm mostly focusing on the styling end of Etano along with some additional new features and mods here and there to allow users to add some enhancements to their Etano sites.

I recently added a Facebook style popup window to my templates for displaying the large photos when clicking on a member's thumbnail in the photo album page.

There's a few things in Facebook that are ok but I have little interest in trying to create a lot of the mods or apps that Facebook has. I'm not really much of a Facebook fan.

For now I'm mostly focusing on the styling end of Etano along with some additional new features here and there to try and make Etano more eye pleasing and user friendly, which I've invested hundreds of hours in doing over the last year. I've only got so much free time available to work on Etano stuff and therefore I can't develop everything people may want, we need more developers that specialize in certain types of programming and development to become involved in the project. One or two people can't know or do it all, there's certain things I'm just not very skilled at doing when it comes to programming.

I plan on eventually creating and adding some free mods, possibly I'll even provide a free template down the road.

Right now I'm working on creating Deluxe versions of my templates that will include the top friends and comment board mods, a video album, and a few other features.

Fantastic maverick, Good Luck

I wish i were in your town or city so i could learn from you... i am so mad to learn these things but i have no one . I can only get help from google search on internet....

I learned most everything myself from the Internet and studying code of tons of different web templates and CMS scripts and learned mostly by trial and error. It takes years and requires a lot of time and patience as there's really few shortcuts. Etano isn't really the ideal script to start out with for learning the basics, to be able to fully customize Etano or any other complex CMS script is going to require some advanced CSS and HTML skills and at least some basic knowledge of PHP.

All I can say after purchasing Titanium Template, WOW! I love all the little/huge adds and mods you did to it. Like I said before, after seeing it first had, I would have easily payed triple for it!! GREAT work Maverick!!!!

-Joseph

PS: In spite of me unintentionally using code from your templates, prior to buying it, you still offered to help me. This says a world about your character!!! THANK YOU Maverick!!

Many thanks to Maverick for his excellent addons, service and advice.  We have used datemill/etano for 3 sites more than 5 years. Maverick has helped us numerous times with success.

Buy his templates , you won't be sorry.

I'm having trouble with his template. I have the latest version of Etano (1.22) and Maverick's template. The problem I am having is that no images are showing up. I have graphics around some of the small window boxes, but no background header or footer images. What could possibly be wrong? It's almost as if nothing is talking to the layout.css file and if this were the case, i don't know which html file communicates with this css file. also the navigation bar graphics are not visible.

I have several of Mavericks templates and have no problem at all with any of them. It sounds like the image pathnames are wrong.

Do you have the images in the skins_site/def/images folder or the root folder/images folder, they need to go in the skins_site/def/images folder. Easy mistake to make, Ive done it.
